-the ice clinked and melted with a swirl-
and that meant for sure
'it doesn't signify.'

At the table with a bombshell
-or at least a wannabee-
her smoke-ring blew towards my eyebrows
to tell me right then:
I didn't signify.

Is this true? it seems like it may be. I like it because I can see it, I can almost smell the whiskey in the highball and the smoke, all that's missing is a little jazz perhaps. Very clever. Val
