Kingdom Hall city Mass. Alt. 9 Pop. 18706
I knocked, hard;
shave, haircut, two bits, and all that.
The door remained unmoved:
Ash-frame building, tarpaper roofed.
A cross on top, spiritual weathercock.
Knocked again, long, loud, a statement;
no one came.
I noticed a bell -
not for pushing, no -
a brass thing with a clapper.
I swung that bell
for Jesus’ sake.
The woman came.
‘Have you been saved?’
I asked her.
