A penny for the parchment,
a farthing for the ink:
for any of our normal fees,
we take a note of hand.
A shilling for the scrivener
- and tuppence for his pen -
we need a little something now,
I’m sure you understand.
A guinea for m’learned friend,
a florin for his clerk:
visit Chadwick down the hall,
and take a chance on gold.
Another bill at discount?
A lien on property?
By dint of expectations,
our interest has been sold.
