Let’s hear it for the outliers,

the wolf-criers, the de-niers

of everything and anything,

despite all evidence.

Get busy listening

to the stagey whispering

of so many, drowning the still

small voice of reason.

We don’t hear Cassandra

for the baying of the crowd

the loud, the proud,

the opinions in the cloud.

The voice of the few

drowns the sighs of the many,

any opinion matters,

shatters the fragile strands of nuance.

Every argument is binary

so ironic, a tonic for those

bewildered by the most vitriolic

about the choice of two or many.

I’m OK, you’re OK:

say your piece, at least I’ll listen,

strange, my mind won’t change,

but nor will yours.

You won’t believe this, but that is fine.
