I dropped a pebble in your waters,
waited while the ripples came back.
I winked a secret in the silence,
you smiled with eyes turned black.
I kissed a teardrop from your cheekbone-
kissed you 'til your lips turned blue.
I bruised black blood into your cold lips:
some loving is what saved you.
I hid a love-note in a bottle,
hoped for ripples to catch,
I awaited something, grieved,
while someone lit three candles
from a tallow-tired match.
