The Sea Low, Green

As I stand here at the edge, watching the sea, low, green
I allow myself to ponder and get to grips with what you mean
At eternity's gate, I see it: that perennial portal
It shifts and warps and rises and sinks,
and now it is the sea, low, green.
A pasture of shimmering, indifferent, sublime stuff
To be swept unto it in mind or body is immensely tough
I believe in nature, uncaring though to the mortal
We can't quite comprehend life, so we create to offer up what we've seen
It is bleeding in with a sky the colour of slate snow
A layering bed of space sky sea and sand from below
None of it is quite congruent, yet there is beauty in it all
I detach from the reality we think we've got, to retrace a world that's always been.
