A Hard Lesson For Me

There was a boy who joined my class
the game we made up was a laugh
Whenever we would make him run
then everyone would share the fun
One day I called him mister moon
And everyone else did pretty soon
His name became a playground song
And we sang it on and on and on and on
When someone jumped up on his back
He couldn't run and then fell flat
His tears and whines we copied too
He's such a baby, wouldn't you?
And everyday we'd chase him round
And in the classroom put him down
Until one day he didn't come
And ended all our playground fun
The teacher stood us in a line
She was so cross, so nearly crying
She told us that we'd made him ill
For fun, for something called a thrill
She told us that he couldn't face
This school, this happy caring place
Because our fun, our games had made
This person lonely, scared, afraid
He wasn't coming back to school
The teacher's eyes, we felt so cruel
We thought about when he was here
The times before we made him fear
So I have learnt that any game
Must never cause a person pain
