One Day

This world will choke me one day

And I'll die from its toxic fumes

Gases mixed from pain and hatred

Slowly spread across the surface

Contaminating all it touches

Until we all succumb

Either in causality or innocence

 

We will all smother one day

Well that was a cheerful one to hit on.  You're so right though, we evolve to both better and worse.  Really liked this one, punchy and goes stright between the eyes.
