I want to tell you a story… of a romantic dream that came true
It started way back in the 70’s... and ended when they said “I do”

It’s a story of two lovely people... and it’s a story of love and of fate
They were destined to end up together... and it proves that it’s never too late

They went to the same school as youngsters… but I don’t think their paths really crossed
So now they’re grown up, it’s time to make up... for all of the years that they lost

Our school days are days we should cherish… when we take trips down memory lane
And I wonder if we had our school days again… if they would both live theirs the same

At school the world was their oyster… they then left and went their own way
And who would believe that 30 years on… they’d be here getting married today

Well it’s thanks to the wonders of “Facebook”… the internet networking tool
That they both came to Wath for a catch up… with the” kids” who were at the same school

A few of the “kids” kept in contact... and had some good nights on the town
But they only had eyes for each other... and the first seeds of love were put down

We went to a concert at Magna… to see one of our favourite old bands
Imagine our smiles as we all turned round… and they were both there holding hands

We went to see Hawley at Bridlington Spa... and we stayed in an old B & B
And you could tell they were clearly a couple... as they ate fish and chips by the sea

They looked rather sheepish last summer… while we were in York buying shoes
When we saw them outside the ring shop… before they’d announced their good news

They live by the river in Cawood... an old village with its own ancient sword
And with the Ouse at the bottom of their garden… they have views so they’ll never get bored

Their love quickly blossomed and two became one… and now they share the same name
And one thing’s for sure, now they’re married… their life just won’t be the same

And I’m glad we were there to share in their joy... when they became husband and wife
And we send all our love and best wishes… for today and the rest of their life

I enjoyed this, Fatboyfat, it warmed the generally icy cockles of my heart. 'Well it’s thanks to the wonders of “Facebook”… the internet networking tool That they both came to Wath for a catch up… with the” kids” who were at the same school' - should that be 'watch'? I hope you don't mind (some folk hate it, but I wish everyone would do it because I often edit pieces several times and still leave the odd typo)

"They both came to Wath for a catch up" Wath is actually the place where we all met, it's my hometown where we all went to school http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wath-upon-Dearne Thanks anyway, at least it shows someone is reading it, and I don't mind any critique, good or bad :)

Sorry, Fatboyfat, my mistake, I've never heard of Wath. A lot of folk don't like anyone pointing out errors, but I'm always glad of it, because you can edit something a dozen times and miss the most obvious blunders. Stephen King once handed a manuscript (I think it was The Stand) to half a dozen friends before anyone else saw it, and he'd written 'shooting peasants' instead of 'shooting pheasants.' The best way to attract comments on this site is to spend an occasional half hour (or whatever time you can afford) reading and commenting on the work of others. There are some excellent writers on the site, and there's something for every taste. A few of the writers I really like on here are barely read at all because they can't (or won't) spare the time to make contacts. On the whole the members are a friendly, helpful bunch, but like everything else in life you have to put a little work in or you'll just get overlooked.
