My Mum is getting married.
I know you may be wondering, why I’m standing here today
Well, I’m honoured and I’m privileged, to give my mum away
I know it may seem strange to some, but life moves on so fast
It’s never too late to start again, and move on from the past
She’s entitled to enjoy herself; she’s had a tough few years
She’s had her ups; she’s had her downs and even shed some tears
But it’s good to see her laughing; it’s good to see her smile
She hasn’t been this happy in a long, long while
It began around a year ago, of that I have no doubt
She started going to a dance, and she started eating out
We couldn’t understand it, but it made sense in the end
She’d met someone at dancing! She had a new Man Friend!
She had a twinkle in her eye, she was playing little games
And then one day we met this man, Alan was his name
It was Alan this and Alan that, It used to drive us mad
But if he made Mum happy, he can’t have been that bad
They went everywhere together, he really changed her life
They started out just dancing, he then asked her to be his wife
She didn’t say yes to start with, but then he asked once more
This time she felt the time was right, this time she was so sure
They started making wedding plans whilst painting the new flat
They bought their outfits and their rings and her friends all bought new hats
I’m glad they both found happiness, I’m glad they found each other
I’m glad that someone came along who’ll look after my mother
Now Alan is a lucky man, I’m sure you’ll all agree
As the lady he’s just married is a glamorous OAP!!
So come on everybody, everyone around the room
Please raise your glass and join me, as I toast the bride and groom
