Failing To Think About Trees..............11

I had this comfort before:
the free shawl
of afternoon light draped
over me,
warming me inside
out walking in the woods.
When your companionship came:
hope of friendship like
a candle's flaring flame
protected, projected
by my computer screen,
I let day fall, unseen,
lived for the dark
where I could see you shine
in writing
burning down the hours
till we met;
but then
I, with air head
wishful thinking
blew hope
out:
wavering already, last night
your emails died,
their absence older than the sky.
Now,
dawn gives me cool welcome:
within silver folds of new sun
I seek to think of trees again
