Butterfly

Little social butterfly
Sipped martinis multiply
Like the moths drawn to a flame
Little light bulb draws the same
Snippy heels and bloated dress
Tiny frame, too frail, confess
Face faint marked with plaguing thoughts
Caked with make up, hide the spots
Latest music pulses through
Coldest looks in purple hue
Draw together for the lens
Pull away, as if to cleanse
Little social butterfly
Horrid visions underlie
Anxious dreams and cold sweat nights
Cruel companions, bitter fights
Flit about the garden now
In the sunlight disavow
All your troubles, the mistakes
Fluttering away the aches
Casual contact with a leaf
Relationships awkward and brief
Airplane meals, love for dessert
Easier to smile and flirt
Little social butterfly
Sometimes laugh and sometimes cry
Somber canvas, smoky room
Caught up in poetic gloom.
