Cerebral Captive
The world looks down on your electric throne
And sees a helpless child
Who must be patronised and wrapped in cotton wool.
If only they knew what you were thinking.
I entered your cloistered world
And made the same mistake.
I tried to cosset you because I couldn't understand.
It was only flesh that wounded lay.
Your mind was just as sharp as mine.
The walk that began when I stood at your side
Opened more than just my eyes.
It taught me much about the world,
The simple truth that it doesn't want to understand.
Turning pity into admiration took me many painful lessons.
An individual just as special
Was growing up like all the rest.
Your teenage sense of humour became a treasure
And suddenly I realised how complete you really were.
To Peter, my mate.
