Chasing Winners
Like the Yeti, the Sprite, the Abominable Snowman and even hope that Dodos still live on in some forgotten Pacific island. The mythical horse called ‘Winner’ fades into the distance once again.
He is fleet of foot and more elusive than the shadows that hint of his existence. Many a tale is told of his prowess, speed and most importantly, his endless wealth. Many tell ‘fishermen’s’ tales of cradling the magnificent beast in their arms, but have only the scars of defeat as they struggled to hang on to their trophy, but in their shame they boast of holding him rather than admit he has eluded them, leaving them broken and broke.
Like a book the reader cannot put down; the awful film they’ll watch for just one more minute; the tower they try to build out of dry grains of sand, they set of in pursuit of this wonderfully proud creature who will always be ahead of them, always free and always just out of reach. Does it deter them? No! So in blind stupidity and a dash of desperation they urge their faltering ego on; convinced that this time they will catch and tame the beast.
Empty homes, empty lives and shell-like shattered souls lament the chase; for that is all they have. Their race is run as they buckle and fall. Winner races on and on, and on, and on….the steed, like infinity cannot be reached. Yet as the chaser collapses and weeps, many rush past him leaving him to die. For they WILL catch the uncatchable and raise the crown aloft…or will they?

Cleverly expressed.
Cleverly expressed. Contentment is great gain, and faith and labour far more productive than hoping in luck - winning can be the beginning of long failing and disaster. Rhiannon
