Earth's Exit

 Solar Exit

The debate amongst the planetary delegates reached truly cosmic proportions and activity was frenzied as the date came closer for Earth’s exit from the Solar System.

“The arrogance displayed by Earth is truly breath taking.  “Mars lamented. “Ever since Mr Wells made us a target of suspicion we’ve been overwhelmed with Earth’s junk!  Quite frankly I say let ‘em go.  Let’s see them probe us from Interstellar Space!”

The delegate for Uranus then stood up “how do you thing WE feel, being the butt of jokes about being probed?!”

Pluto interrupted. “As a non-voting delegate (he paused to curse Earth’s scientists under his breath) I urge the other planets to support Mars’s proposal.  After all what has Earth ever done for us?  The try to rule the roost and frankly we are sick of it.  I say LET THEM GO and good riddance!”

Chairman Jupiter spoke.

“ We will now hear contributions from Venus as the two are closely linked”

Venus rose slowly and menacingly with an evil grin.

“We have no opinions either way.  Let them come near us and see what happens! Oh sure! They walked on the Moon.  Boo hoo! Anyone could do that.  Haven’t seen them trying to claim our hell-hot home.”

Mercury pointed out that it was a question of balance.

 “We may be small and blow hot and cold, but we need Earth right where she is.  It’s vital for our continued existence that Earth is made to pull its weight!  They must stay.”

Neptune suggested that Jupiter shifted its position to compensate for the loss, but was quickly shouted down by Saturn and Mars who chorused…

“No, most certainly not.  Have you smelt the noxious gasses and the noise from the constant arguments of its storms is loud enough from where we are now!”

Jupiter diplomatically ignored the jibes and commented

“That the multiplicity of probes to sent to harass Jupiter and the attention Earth was drawing from the rest of the Galaxy in its presumptuous belief that other beings want to talk to it is getting tiresome.  It would be a much quieter Solar System if they were allowed to go!”

Then an awesome noise shook the meeting “What GOD has created, let NO ONE put ASUNDER!!!”

Earth and all the others left without a word.
