A Hungry Goal
Premiership and Park,
Silky surface, mud bath made.
Never sated, a greed for goal.
‘Never Ref!’
‘You must be blind!’
White stick in hand
He marks the line.
‘We want more!
Yes, goals galore
And scored in style!’
Opposition silenced
They choke on bile.
Tribal gatherings
Obscene mantras chant
Mocking, baying,
Of-key threats toward
The talented immigrant.
Gone the tackles
Bathed in gore
Hewn from granite
Defenders of the past
Roam no more the soccer planet.
Balletic prancers
Skip and dance, making
Maze-like patterns.
Bemused, confused
The goalie weeps.
