Time To Remember
The fire is bright
The lights are low
No sounds divert
My mind begins to glow
Early recall flooding back
Chapter one unfolds
Vivid images enter a vacant mind
I trapped my ankle, two years old
The Sixties began their swing
Short-trousered innocence started school
No more soothing breast of mum
Lessons, timetables, endless rules
Man was on the Moon
I still trod the path of learning
Into Secondary Modern’s caste
I was poured, still ever yearning
The yoke of honest labour
Man still earnt the crust
I began my working journey
Rearranging worthless dust
Here and now the fire still glows
Six decades, I cannot do again
Some in darkness now forever buried
Yet dear, sweet memories still remain
