Tinys To Teen Terrors
Seeking succour
From the trusted mother
A hen guards her brood
Torrents of tears
Sobs subside
As Loco Parentis
Coos and sooths.
The tiny tots
Tremble not.
A minute cradle of learning
Nurturing, inspiring,
The eager infants
Devour each word adoringly
Small walls comfort
The nervous flock.
This reassuring microcosm
Stretches through endless summers
Sunshine dandelion days
In meadows marking
A reassuring world.
The ‘big school’
Must devour it’s quota
Garnering the growing
To process through
The dark mill of learning.
Cap and Gown, stage strutting
The Master growls and roars
Each summer now gets darker
No plasticine snakes to wiggle
The stick replaces the giggle.
Goggle-eyed, boggle-brained
The timid tinys tremble in.
Seven come eleven years
Squeeze in the cavernous hall
Eagle-eyed bouncers
Haul out the chaff
And beat a rhythm of terror
On the innocent’s bum.
The daisy days of light and love
Grow ever dim
Calculus, Quo Vardis?
All thrashed in.
From chubby little cherubs
To Teenage Terrors
The transformation is complete.
The dark doors open
And hurl them to the street.
