Like the Fitzroy River
threatening to change lives
love breaks heart banks.
In a rush, it arrives
obstacles float on the tide
devouring resistance.
Useless to turn away but
like nine pins fall prey
to the relentless flow.
In the sudden silence
after the flood recedes
find solid ground to stand
among the sodden slush
marked by tidal scars
dreams lie with branches.
