Ephemeral Eden

A tree grows tall, its leaves adorned,
With berries and fruits and treats of splendour,
Not too strong nor sour nor sweet,
But coexisting with each other in wondrous flavour,
Like a banquet of goodness and glory.
But of course it couldn't last long,
For nothing really does, does it?
The east winds blew and the sky set fire,
Sending our tree to ash and dust.
And there it lies; do you see it? That dark patch on the grass.
A grim reminder of better times, those once untouched by the flames of now.
