Another Horrible Green Hairy Monster

Hercules woke up with a start early one morning. Something large was lying near him and making horrible grunting sounds. Very carefully he looked round and saw something very large and very green snoring.
He quietly woke up Hector and Lysander holding his finger to his lips to stop them making any noise. Together the little men went to have a look at the green monster asleep near them.
It wasn’t at all like the times when they were trying to frighten Alex. This really was a Green Monster and when they got closer they could see that he was very Hairy. Creeping away as quietly as mice they went to the grove of nut trees and waited for Alex to come out to see them.
When Alex did come out they waved to him from the nut trees and he ran over to them. They explained what had happened and asked him to come over and see for himself. Then they all went and had really close look and the nearer they got the more horrible he looked!
“Crumbs,” said Alex, “It really is a horrible Green Hairy Monster.”
“What can we do to get rid of him?” asked Hector.
Alex thought for a moment. “I’ll go and ask mummy if she can make me a notice telling him that he’s not wanted around here.”
So off he went back to the house where mummy was working in the kitchen putting away the breakfast things that she’d just washed up. Alex asked if mummy could make a notice for him to frighten away the horrible green hairy monster sleeping at the end of the garden.
“Still playing your Horrible Green Hairy Monster games are you?" she asked. Then she went and got an old corn flakes packet, cutting it open so that it became a large sheet of cardboard. She wrote out a notice on the inside of the packet in large open letters.
“There you are, she said, “you can colour in all the letters using the crayons that Aunty Mary gave you for Christmas and hang it up when you next see one of your monsters.”
Alex was happy do as mummy suggested. He liked using his brightly coloured crayons and although he was still too young to write properly he was very good at colouring in pictures without going over the lines. When he’d finished he showed his mummy and asked her what it said.
“We don’t want Horrible Green Hairy Monsters in our garden. GO AWAY!” read mummy. “There I think that should do the trick. You coloured in all the letters beautifully.”
So Alex proudly took the notice back to his friends who were watching the monster who was still asleep snoring very loudly. Carefully Lysander crept up and put the notice where the monster would see it when he woke up. Then they all hid in the garden watching.
They didn’t have too long to wait. The snoring suddenly stopped with a loud snort and the monster sat up rubbing his eyes. Then he saw the notice lying on the ground just beside him. He looked round with his horrible glaring eyes, but he couldn’t see anybody; the friends were all too well hidden.
He made horrible growling noises under his breath and stomped off out of Alex daddy’s garden and they watched him go crossing from one garden to the next, until he was out of sight.
“Thank goodness he’s gone” said Hercules, “now we can do what we want without being frightened about being eaten.”
