Bird watching
By Geoffrey

I’ve bought a new bird feeder
I’m afraid the birds look all the same
They all have beaks and feathers
But I don’t know their names
I had a friend who said he knew
But he wasn’t very bright
He said all the birds were sparrows
Except for seagulls, which were white
I’ve been outside to ask their names
But none of them will say
They look at me and go ‘cheep cheep’
And then they fly away
So I must buy a bird book
Or try and find them on the Net
There are lots and lots of different sorts
I don’t want to forget
Now I know two kinds of pigeons
Jackdaws visit me as well
Today I saw my first nuthatch
That was quite a thrill
I’ve seen blue tits and robins red
Coal tits whose heads are black
That description’s not quite accurate
There’s a white patch on the back
I can see a tree where a local rook
Builds his nest so far away
Though it might be a crow for all I know
I really cannot say
500 species of British birds
Most my garden hasn’t got
So I’ll be looking for a long time yet
Before I’ve seen the lot
