An hour or so later she’d heard enough polite chat to last her for ages, so she flew back to the Witches’ Home and walked through to the front lawn.
She was surprised to see her dad’s lugger moored at the pilings. He wasn’t in sight so she went round to the workshop to see if Robert had seen him. Her instinct proved right! They were both there, looking at a set of drawings together.
“I don’t see why it shouldn’t work,” Robert was saying, “but it won’t be very efficient!”
“That’s not the point, it’s supposed to be fun, but I want to keep it a secret until I know it’ll work!”
Robert suddenly noticed Jennifer Jane and nudged Dave with his elbow.
Dad turned round, covering the drawings at the same time. “I suppose you heard some of that,” he said, “but don’t tell your mother whatever you do, it’s going to be a surprise for her.”
“Well we’ve both noticed that you’ve got some sort of secret, but neither of us knows what it might be.”
“Good, just lets keep it that way then. I think you both might enjoy the results if Bob and I can get the idea off the ground between us!”
Robert laughed, which made Jennifer Jane wonder what on earth could be going on. Still, if the Witches’ Home workshop was going to be making whatever it was going to be, then it shouldn’t take too long now before everyone found out the answer.
