The double glazing salesman 7/12

Dave flew away round the back of the Witches’ Home in great style. The magic force that hid the front of the Home from the alternate world was a bit of a disappointment. He had hoped to see through it from a height, but as Jennifer Jane had described to him in the past, it looked rather like a shiny half egg covering the ground.
However he was very pleased with the way his wings were performing, he seemed to be flying over the ground at quite a respectable speed.
He flapped his arms slowly and had a good look round at the scenery. In front of him he could see the hills behind Lurbridge, where Jennifer Jane had recently saved the village from the threat of flooding, when Malcolm had built a dam across the river using magic.
Over to his right he could see Lurbridge itself, with the river running under Gordon’s bridge and round the cliff towards Timber Creek. He didn’t want to get too far away from the Witches’ Home on his first flight, so he decided it was time to turn round and fly back.
He was amazed at the strength of the wind as he tried to head back. No matter how hard he flapped, he could make no progress. Indeed he could see by looking at the ground that he was being driven backwards slowly but surely.
He realised that flying must be rather like sailing a boat; the wind could fell very gentle when it was behind you, but always seemed to get much stronger when sailing against it. Then he noticed a rather nasty rain cloud heading his way.
Since he couldn’t get back, he headed for the hills above the village with the wind behind him once again. Lurbridge seemed a little too far away to reach before the bad weather reached him. Hopefully he’d find shelter somewhere before the storm arrived. If he couldn’t, then it looked as if he was in for a soaking.
The first few spots of rain were beginning to fall before he spotted a small cave not too far away in the hillside. He folded his wings back and dived as quickly as possible towards the ground. He had to make himself heavy again to stop himself from being blown over when he landed, but managed to get inside the cave before the storm broke.
Once inside he undid his harness and sat down for a rest. His arms were aching with all the unaccustomed exercise and he was only too glad to be out of the wind and the rain. He leaned up against the cave wall and before he knew it had dropped of into a light sleep.
