“There’s a couple of customers coming this way by the look of it,” said Esmerelda.
“Betcha they go round to see Tasmin!” replied Dulce.
Ermintrude came from the room at the back of the shop and together the three witches watched as the strangers approached.
“They don’t look as if they’re dressed quite right somehow,” said Ermintrude.
“It’s that witch who’s a friend of young Jane in her world,” said Esme, “don’t you lot say nothing now, they’d probably think we were being rude.”
“Yers ‘sright,” giggled Dulce.
“Afternoon ladies,” said Eve as they got closer, “this is my husband Adam.”
“Pleased to meet you Adam,” said all three witches at once, each of them bobbing down in a little curtsey as they spoke.
“We’re just going to pop round to see Tasmin, perhaps we’ll stop for a chat on the way back.”
“Told you so,” said Dulcibella as they walked away, “you both owe me one! Now then, who’s this coming now?”
A broom was flying slowly along the edge of the wood, as if the rider didn’t want to be seen too easily. It landed just outside the shop and a rather pleasant looking middle aged witch got off.
“I’m following the people who’ve just left here, do you happen to know who they are?
“Eve’s a witch from Jennifer Jane’s world and the other one’s her husband,” said Esme, “she didn’t say if he was a wizard, but somehow he don’t look as if he is!”
“Funny sort of clothes they’re wearing,” said the strange witch.
“Yes I think they are trying to blend in with this world, not like the kid with her plaits and those funny trousers she wears. They’ve just gone round to see Tasmin if you’re interested.”
“Not particularly, but thanks for your help ladies.”
The witch got back on her broom and flew back towards Lurbridge. Once she was out of sight, she used an instant travel spell to get back to her cottage and went straight to the spell proof room at the back of her home.
Adam and Eve eventually trudged wearily back towards Lurbridge. They’d had an exhausting talk with Tasmin, who as usual had chatted away about all sorts of things without letting either of them get a word in edgeways. They’d excused themselves as they passed the shop, the witches behind the counter sympathising as Eve explained about the dragon.
To their surprise a lady was waiting for them as they arrived back at their door.
“I wonder if you can do me a favour?” she asked. “I have this parcel for Jennifer Jane. Unless I’m mistaken you come from her world.”
“True,” said Eve, “in fact we actually live next door to her, although I don’t know how you found out!”
“Oh that’s quite easy, if you know the formula for calculating door positions, you can calculate backwards as well as forwards and know where people are coming from as well as where they’re going to!”
“That sounds interesting,” said Adam, “is there any chance you could teach me? We opened this one rather by chance and I think we’ve been very lucky to arrive here safely.”
“Well it’s a bit too near my teatime now,” said Georgina, “but I’ll willingly show you next time I see you.”
She handed over her parcel and waved good bye as Adam and Eve used the door and disappeared.
“Somehow I don’t think I’ll be here next time!” Georgina said to herself as she walked away happily. It should be some time before anyone found out why Jennifer Jane wasn’t her usual self and that should allow her enough time to carry out her plans to ruin George and gain her revenge!
