Ley lines 8/11

The tunnels contained the magic that could be sensed on the surface as Ley lines. She remembered Eve saying that one of her group thought a line went from the local church, right through to Telegraph Hill and the Stone Age village beyond. Well, it certainly did that all right, although if the tunnel was anything to go by, the line continued well past the churchyard.
She must have swum nearly three miles along the tunnel and if travel along the line was that fast, she made up her mind to go the other way and see if she could surface on the top of the hill.
She returned to her starting point and continued on to the next light. She was quite right, Telegraph Hill it was. She decided not to do any more exploring until she’d had a word with Abigail and went back to the start.
She floated up very slowly and had a quick peep out of the hole to make sure there was no one too near. It was just as well that she was careful. Several of the witches had spread out in a line and were walking slowly across the ground calling her name. Eve was only ten yards or so away talking to another of her friends.
“I’m sure I saw her come over this way when she left the circle. I’ll never forgive myself if something’s happened to her, what ever will her parents think of us?”
Jennifer Jane floated right through the hole and drifted a little further away from Eve, before making herself heavy enough to come back to earth.
Thinking quickly, she sat down behind the nearest of the large stones left by the archaeologists, before yawning loudly and pretending that she’d been asleep.
“Thank goodness you’re alright,” said Eve, “we were getting quite worried. It’s alright now,” she called to the search party, “she’s over here.”
“I’m awfully sorry, I think I must have dropped off to sleep, it is long past my bedtime.”
“Yes I suppose it must be,” replied Eve, “well we’ve finished our meeting now, so we’ll take you home. All’s well that ends well!”
There was a nice hot cup of cocoa waiting when she got home. She thanked Eve for inviting her and quite truthfully said it had been a very interesting experience and she’d learned a lot.
“Well come on then, tell us all about it,” said Dave, “are they as potty as we think they are?”
“I’ll tell you all about it tomorrow, but there was one thing,” she added mischievously, “there was real magic involved.”
Her parents looked at each other in amazement as she went up to her bedroom.
“Surely not that lot,” she heard them saying, “I just don’t believe it!”
