Ley lines 9/11

“Hurry up with your breakfast;” said Mary the next morning, “your father and I can’t wait to hear what sort of magic Eve and her friends were doing.”
“It wasn’t them doing the magic, it’s the Ley lines, Abigail was right. The lines are actually magic tunnels running along under the ground. I fell into one at a crossing point of two lines and was able to get to Telegraph Hill and the local churchyard very quickly, by sort of swimming underground.”
“There can’t be any tunnels over there, surely,” said dad, “they would have collapsed or been dug up in the excavations by now.”
“These are magic tunnels! I don’t think any ordinary person would be able to get inside them or even see them if they were dug up. I suppose I could, because I know enough witchcraft to make it possible, but the inside is very strange, it’s almost like thick soup down there and I had to ‘swim’ to get along them. Anyway I’ve had an idea about why they’re there and I want to have a word with Abigail about it before I say any more.”
That afternoon, as soon as she came home from school, she went off to see Abigail. Much to her parents’ surprise, Abigail herself returned with Jennifer Jane half an hour later. They both seemed quite excited.
