Now that I’m 80
I’ve noticed something happening right before my eyes
Hills are getting steeper much to my surprise
Weights seem to get much heavier every blessed day
I wobble about when walking after only a short way
I’m not too sure what day it is, let alone the year
But the details of my early life has become extremely clear
The little hair that I have left has gone very thin and grey
Remembering words is difficult and I can’t think what to say
I daren’t bend down to pick things up for then I strain my back
I want to do up nuts and bolts but my hands have lost the knack
I don’t do anything very much and my belt is getting tighter
I think because my tummy’s big and I’m not getting any lighter
Policemen are much younger, children make more noise
Cars accelerate much faster now they’ve automatic toys
Nobody wants to queue no more, nor leave the pavement clear
What the hell’s an I pod? I’ve really no idea.
I see a lot of people but my eyes are weak and dim
I’m not sure until they talk to me if they’re a her or him
But this doesn’t make much difference now that I’m old and grey
For I’ve not only lost my eyesight but all my wah hah hey!
