Jennifer Jane looked round in bewilderment, then burst into tears. Mary hurried over and gave her a big cuddle, while Lucy and the policeman stared at everyone, not quite sure what was going on. They were even more amazed as Abigail produced a broom and with Jennifer Jane sitting behind her, flew ashore and headed off inland.
The lugger moored at the timber yard pier and everyone climbed up the ladder. The surprises were not over yet. The whole party hurried off along the pier, turned left onto the river road and walked round the corner of the cliff until they could see Lurbridge.
Lucy and the policeman both gasped in amazement as they suddenly saw the giant Arthur waiting for them on the village green with his carrying box. The customers from the George and Dragons came out and gave everyone a cheer as they climbed aboard for their ride to the Witches’ Home.
As they arrived, there was a small crowd, including Esmerelda and the other witches from the shop, already outside congratulating Jennifer Jane on her safe return.
She’d taken off her wig and was dressed once more as Joan. Lucy and the policeman were absolutely speechless, which was just as well, as Abigail put her finger to her lips to tell everyone to be quiet from now on.
Jennifer Jane, with Abigail following closely behind her, led the party on tiptoe through the Home to the front lawn. Then she turned right and crept along the front of the building until she came to the workshop. She carefully put her head round the door and walked quietly up behind a man working on a cloud repair.
“Hello Uncle Malcolm,” she said loudly.
