After mooring the boat the pair set off for home. Jennifer Jane was getting really worried now. In a moment or two it would be too late for an accident and they were actually in sight of the gap in the hedge where the path lead into their gardens.
Just then a small furry animal ran out in front of Eve and tripped her up. As expected, Eve banged her head on the ground, before sitting up dizzily and looking round.
“How on earth did I get here?” she asked.
“I was coming home from a walk in the woods,” said Jennifer Jane with a sigh of relief, “and I just found you lying here”
She helped Eve to her feet and together they walked back to Eve’s house. Adam let them in the back door.
“You seem to be making a habit of this,” he said to Jennifer Jane with a laugh, “I think I’ll have to stop her going out in the woods on her own, she’s always getting into scrapes out there.”
Jennifer Jane went back to her own house through the side gate. Moggy was waiting for her on the other side of the hedge.
“However did you know that she was supposed to fall and bang her head?”
“Easy, said Moggy, “you were mentally shouting your head off coming through the woods. ‘If she doesn’t bang her head soon everyone will know about the fairy folk and they’ll all disappear.’ Well I don’t want that to happen any more than you do, so I thought I’d better get out there and trip her up before she got home. Did it work all right?”
“Yes I think so, but I’ve a feeling it wasn’t quite the way it was planned!”
