“Oh lor,’ it’s only a kid, just go back where you came from, I don’t want to waste my time with children, I’m waiting for a mighty witch called Jennifer Jane to come here and attack me.”
He mumbled something under his breath that sounded very much like ‘not that she’ll have much of a chance.’
“I am Jennifer Jane, what’s your problem,” she shouted as loudly as she could.
The dragon looked at her in astonishment and then quite literally fell over, roaring with laughter and kicking his feet in the air.
“Every one knows that Jennifer Jane is nine feet tall and always has a tame dragon following her around,” he said when he finally stopped laughing and stood up again. “It’s also said that she beats up a troll every morning before breakfast, but personally I don’t believe that.”
Jennifer Jane got her scroll from the luggage compartment of her scooter and waved it in the air. “I’ve heard that dragons have good eyesight, can you read what this says from up there,” she shouted in reply.
The dragon shaded his eyes with one large foot and squinted carefully down at the parchment that Jennifer Jane was holding.
“Well it says you are her, although I find it rather hard to believe. I don’t suppose I’ll get my bonus but there’s nothing to lose anyway. Goodbye kid!”
A huge ball of flame hurtled down the hillside covering the distance to Jennifer Jane in about two seconds. Then she heard a clang as the scooter and herself landed in the guardhouse of the Witches’ Home. She looked up to see the witch on duty looking at her with some surprise.
“Haven’t seen you arrive like that for a long time,” she said. “What have you gone and done now?”
