“Ah well, show’s over for the day,” laughed Abigail, “but you really did look funny underneath that sweet little baby dragon!”
“It’s just as well you came with us,” said Jennifer Jane, “I couldn’t reach her to reverse the spell, you’ll have to teach me how to cancel at long range one day.”
“I dare say Megan would have flown after her and brought her back if it had come to it.”
Abigail called Frosty back down to the ground. Everyone waved goodbye as Megan took Angharad back into the cave for her rest and they all headed back to the Witches’ Home. The first thing they noticed when they arrived was a long queue of apprentices lining up outside the workshop.
One or two of them were already flying around trying out their saddles. Maddy who came over to thank Jennifer Jane as soon as she got off the cloud.
“Thanks ever so much for my saddle. One or two of the others think they’re a bit sissy, but I’m sure that anyone who’s tried one out will find it’s a great improvement on an ordinary broom handle.”
She bounced up and down a few times just to demonstrate how comfy it was, before flying off again to join the rest of the apprentices.
“I’m glad to see that all went well,” said Dave, “I think you’ve helped the comfort of witchcraft in general with that idea.”
“I must agree with you,” said Abigail, “though things aren’t what they were in my young day, but that’s progress for you I suppose.”
“Come along,” said Mary, “if we hurry home now we’ll be in good time for our lunch.”
“You could stay for a meal in the refectory if you like,” said Abigail.
“I’m sorry,” Mary replied, “but our lunch is already cooking in the oven using the timer and ought to be ready as soon as we get indoors.”
The Bells all boarded the lugger, cast off from the Witches’ Home quay and headed off for home. As they sailed out of the fog and headed upstream, they could see Wilfred sound asleep with a happy smile on his face, while the pump beside him was purring quietly putting salt water into his pool.
“Well you can see he’s had his dinner already,” said Mary, “my guess is he enjoyed it, judging by the look on his face.”
If you don’t mind mum, I’ll come along in a minute,” said Jennifer Jane, “I promised to go and tell the goblins the latest news about Angharad as soon as I’d been to see her.”
