It took some moments for the Head to calm down the audience, but eventually peace returned.
“Well I don’t know about all of you, but I found that fascinating. I know it’s all conjuring and illusion, but the effects achieved in this ordinary unprepared hall have been simply amazing. Unfortunately no good magician ever reveals her secrets, so I don’t suppose we’ll ever find out how the performance was done. At the beginning I announced her as a master magician, I think we can all say she well deserves the title, who knows, it could even prove to be a lucrative career for her in the future.”
The school choir closed the proceedings by returning to the stage to sing the school song, while Jennifer Jane was finally able to return to her family, hearing a ‘well done’ as she passed Abigail.
“Jolly good show,” said Adam, “of course it’s well known that all sorts of illusions can be performed in front of a properly lit black curtain, but even so I was very impressed.”
“Take no notice of my husband my dear,” said Eve, “he always tries to find a rational explanation for everything. I know real magic when I see it; you really must introduce me to your GOW group one of these days.”
Adam stood just behind his wife with a big grin on his face, making circular movement against his temple with his forefinger. “Come along love, we’d best be getting home before our young magician here turns us all into a puff of smoke and blows us away.”
To Jennifer Jane’s relief they both left and joined the queue waiting to leave the hall. Abigail came and joined her and her parents.
“I think we might soon be having a bit of trouble with that one,” she said thoughtfully, “we’ve already had to make her forget about that time she fell in the woods behind your house, as well as the time she came to the Witches’ Home open day. We can’t keep on making her lose her memory, so I’ll have to give it some thought, just as well to have some sort of plan in case we need it in the future.”
