A Walk round the Witches' Home 4/4

“Please Ma’am, I came through the wishing fog in my canoe to visit my witch friends, but they were all too busy to talk to me. Everything started to go wrong when I tried to see what would happen if I walked round the Witches’ Home just by the broom shed.”
“You did what?” interrupted the senior, “you actually mean to tell me went right round the Home?”
“Yes I think so and it was jolly hard work. All that happened was that I came out on the other side of the lawn and that was when things started to go wrong. I don’t know anybody and nobody seems to know me.”
“I shouldn’t think they would my dear,” both witches were laughing, “you’ve gone back in time, if you’d gone the other way round you would have travelled into the future. All you have to do to get back to your own time is do the same thing again but this time start at the other end of the building.”
Jennifer Jane thanked them for their trouble and walked off towards the workshop. She could hear the witches talking to each other as she left.
“I don’t know what we’ll be coming to. Apprentice humans I ask you, whatever next? Still it’s nice to know that Abigail will make journeywoman. I wonder if anything special happened while we left those two alone, she certainly would never have got past junior level on her current form.”
The journey back to her own time was a lot easier. The pathway round the Home was still the same width, but every step was so quick and easy.
It almost seemed as if her feet were sliding along the ground. With a sigh of relief, she came out onto the lawn by the broom shed. A quick look down towards the river showed that her canoe was where she’d left it, so all was well.
She began to walk across to Abigail who had just dismissed the apprentice finger exercise class, when Cyril flew in along the river from the magic fog. He landed on the lawn and began to hurry towards the door which led to the castle courtyard and the alternate world.
“I’m just off to see my parents,” he shouted, as he spotted Abigail and Jennifer Jane, “I’ve got some terrific news, Aunty Megan’s going to lay an egg!”
