Windows

This week I cleaned my windows
Which I very rarely do
Unless they’re very misty
And I cannot see right through
So with a bowl of water
Some cleaning rags and soap
A squeegee and a ladder
And a spirit full of hope
I wash the outsides first
Because they’re very dirty
And then go to the insides
Which is when I get quite shirty
For once I’ve polished up the insides
With hard work and British grit
From the inside every outside
Has a lot of smears on it
Now back outside to polish
There are lots of smears to do
But now I have removed them
The inside’s smeary too
Then worn out with my efforts
It’s off to bed I go
To dream of shiny windows
Reflecting light with dazzling glow
Then I get up in the morning
To admire each gleaming pane
But as soon as I get out of doors
It starts to pour with rain.
