Cheated

I feel cheated.
Like when you buy a box of cereal that should have a free toy in it and
it doesn't, or when you order a milkshake and the milk is sour, I feel
cheated.
Like I've purchased a mail-order box but someone left out the whole instructions pamphlet.
Somewhere along the way, someone forgot to sign me up for friendship 101.
My Daddy forgot to sit me on his knee and tell me the truth about friendships.
It's been hammered into my head ever since the cradle that friendships last forever, that friends come first, no matter what, because friendships last forever.
I was taught to believe that friendship is the only form of immortality, strong enough to conquer death and distance.
I thought when the world crumbles, when my life drowns, my friends will be my island.
Now I feel like I was set up for a scam, I was sold a faulty product, and boy did I believe it.
Now that I'm beyond devastation, sick and tired of my bleeding heart, I feel like I want to go to God with my mail order box, my receipt and ask for my money back.
