Pink clouds plume majestically
As the sun sets like a goddamn pina colada in a vegas nightclub
Nearby, there’s a light brown dog with a furrowed brow
Looking out into the vast ceaseless ocean
He knows what’s coming, that dog
He sees the years ahead
Wave after wave of endless dog days
Days of sniffing the same smells
Days without cats
(pause)
The brown dog slowly, ever so slowly
Lowers his head onto his paws and closes his eyes
Dusk is the time for sleep
For later, when darkness has stripped the world of colour
There will be much to do
Old scores to be settled
And complex alliances to be formed
Deep in the moonlit shade
Of the peppermint grove
