‘It’s supposed to be good this place. What shall we have?’
‘I think I’m gonna go for the carbonara. Do you want to share a salad?’
‘Sounds good to me. I’ll have the Bolognaise. Boring I know but I love it. Garlic ciabatta to start?’
‘Definitely.’
***
‘Bit chewy this bread, cold too.’
‘I know. Disappointing. Have another glass of wine, it helps it go down.’
‘I hope our mains are better.’
***
‘How long have we been waiting now?’
‘It’s at least 45 minutes since we finished the bread. Do you think they’re making the pasta from scratch?’
‘Ha, ha. Yes, maybe. I’m starved. I didn’t have time for lunch today.’
‘Poor you. Shall I try and attract the waiter’s attention?’
‘Don’t bother. I’m sure it won’t be long now. Anyway I’m enjoying our catch up. Let’s order another bottle of wine when the main course does arrive.’
***
‘They’ve forgotten our salad, I’ll call him back.’
***
‘This is hideous. What’s yours like.’
‘The same. Fatty meat, thin sauce, awful. I don’t think much of the salad either. Wilted. Tasteless. And not a lot of it.’
‘Yup. I don’t know why I bothered to make sure we got it.’
‘Pass the pepper, maybe some seasoning will help.’
‘It doesn’t, trust me.’
‘I can’t eat anymore.’
‘Me neither.’
***
‘All finished ladies. Oh, you’ve not eaten much is there a problem?’
‘No, no, it’s fine.’
‘Can I tempt you to something sweet?’
‘NO.’
‘No, No thanks. We’re just not that hungry tonight. Everything was OK though, absolutely fine. Lovely. Thanks, thanks.’
***
‘Chips?’
