Bill-board.
Today I was in a hurry and was racing down the highway to
cover a distance of twenty eight kilometers. My speed limit was ? I
don't like to mention as I feel I was utterly stupid to be racing at
such a high speed. I had hardly covered a few kilometers when my eyes
caught the writings on the bill-board, planted firmly on the left side
of the road, clearly visible to a driver's eye. The board
read:
'Life is not a rehearsal,
It is the final take.'
I realised the truth hidden behind these few words. Checked
my speed and I knew I could make it there on time if I maintained a
controllable speed limit. The National Highway authorities have put up
speed limits to be maintained by the vehicles. I thought it was wise to
be careful rather than never.
A few kilometers, another board showed the white painted
words on it:
'The minute you save by speeding
May be your last.'
But this has not changed the rash and ruthless drivers. Their
callousness leads to fatal accidents and many a time those who follow
the rules become victims of senseless driving. I smiled when I read
another writing saying;
'If married
Divorce speed.'
The warnings are put up before our eyes, to catch them,
understand the truth behind it, but no, the final take is an individual
decision.
I returned late in the evening and over a cup of tea I
thought? 'Is life so cheap that we can afford to gamble with
it'?
Read eighty pages from the book, 'Difficult Daughters' by
Manju Kapur. It is boring but I have the habit of finishing a book once
I start with it.
Roti, dal, egg bhujjia and cauliflower curry was waiting at
the dining table for dinner. Something very interesting is going to
take place tomorrow. That is for tomorrow's journal
entry.
I am very tired, off to bed, to enjoy the tinge of warmth and
comfort of my quilt.
