Tears
"Can you tell me something about Tears", said Jessie to her
clone, sitting in her posture in the tall mirror in front of her. "I
know you can imitate me and nothing else, you dumb fool", she said
annoyingly.
She looked up again at her genetic copy, and spoke in a soft
tone, "Why am I thinking about tears", but there was no answer to it.
She could feel her eyes flooding; no one to share her thoughts with and
her mirror image sat in front of her like a dumb doll.
Jessie threw back her head against the tall rest of the rose
wood chair, which had gathered stains from the years of touch of the
human body. She looked at the whitewashed ceiling, could see some
cobwebs at the distant corner of the room, muttered to herself, "These
spiders have worked for hours to spin the web and trap the prey". The
ceiling fan suspended from the hook, running in constant circles with
its droning sound mingling with the moving air in the room. Jessie was
lost in her thoughts.
Jessie felt lonely. She could feel her tears swelling, break
the barriers and roll down like a mountain stream. All that she could
think was about the beautiful eyes God had given to see and enjoy the
beauty of this living world. "Why did God bring tears to the eyes?" The
question stood before her and she was lost in finding an
answer.
Emotions were at war with one another in Jessie's mind. She
wanted the warm fluid to flow down her cheeks and wash away the sad
thoughts stored in her mind. She wanted to forget Alan. The warm liquid
running down like a dangerous river in spate down the smooth surface of
the cheeks, touching the lips to seep into the mouth to catch the salty
taste. She could feel a soft burning sensation running across her face.
A few drops landed so close to her heart, but did not touch the
delicate part this time because of the outer covering. It took some
time for the draught to come.
The saline flow washed some of Jessie's grief.
Jessie wiped her tearstained cheeks, looked at her identical
twin sitting before her. She heaved a sigh, picked up courage, and
uttered, "I will not be cheated again". Her replica was the
witness.
