Reflection
So many hours I have spent, sitting there all alone by the side of the
pond that I can see from the open window of my second floor bedroom.
Just across the street, this pond is a sight for the eyes.
Many a lonely moment I have spent by the side of the pond with my gaze
fixed on its still waters where lay captivated my reflection. I have
seen ME there in the water, where the thoughts were catapulted into the
thin air and reverberating, peeping in and out enjoying my reposing
moment.
Often I have seen a score of ducks, swimming in their stately fashion,
in a formation of their own. The early morning hours, the ducks lining
up and moving in their peculiar 'duck gait' to the water to swim
gracefully from one side to the other and even enjoying moments in
diving in the deep waters with their flat bills in and the webbed feet
sticking up. They moved down their known path everyday back and
forth.
Sometimes my reflection in the still water is broken when the little
boy flings a stone to disturb the water. Ripples come and my reflection
gets lost.
The water hyacinths float on my far side, the white lilies lie
scattered on the water like floating flakes of snow. The kingfisher
dives in to pick his haul, the fish that it had been eyeing for a long
time. The fishes move about freely in their domain. So many men, women
and children swim in this water, some enjoying their swimming exercise
whilst others are in their act of bathing. Activity surrounds the
pond.
Summer, winter and the rains touch the waters of the pond throughout
the year. The summer drinks up the water to its fill, the rains come
and pour to swell the fallen water level and the sweet winter lets the
water sit calmly and wait for the harsh summer to come on its quarterly
round.
Whatever it is, whenever I sit there near the cool still waters, my
reflection comes and beckons me of its presence. Here on the land is
'I' and the 'Me' there in the water and once the stillness is broken my
reflection gets lost in the water.
