Diary Page - Saturday 21/06/03
Weather, Soccer, Witchcraft.
When I scanned my diary pages of this week, I found three things worth
mentioning.
Weather: This summer had been very harsh. The sun had glared on us for
months and the sweltering heat had made life so difficult. The forecast
by the weathermen proved wrong. They had predicted a late monsoon, late
by a week or so. But the rain god had something different in his mind.
Since Monday there have been heavy showers, a great relief from the
unbearable heat. The rivers, lakes, ponds, wells and the other water
bodies are swelling up. Umbrellas and raincoats are in demand. People
got drenched as they stepped out of their houses to welcome the first
spell of rain. The forecast of the meteorological office was wrong, I
think only god can predict the monsoon.
Soccer: David Beckam is in the news, joining Real Madrid on a four year
contract worth 25 million pounds. Football and cricket has been my
favourite games and I have watched the games on television and got the
details from the sport section of the daily and the sport magazines. I
remember those days when I had won number of prizes in the track and
field events in my school and college days. As I sit back and think, I
wish we had women's football and cricket teams in our country in my
younger days. Beckam is a hero of the soccer fans and has become a
global brand.
Witchcraft: J.K. Rowling's fifth Harry Potter book 'The Order of the
Phoenix' is now in the market. Children have been waiting for their
copies. They have waited patiently to read more about their hero Harry
and the Hogwarts. I rang up my book store and the owner, Om Prakash
told me to collect the copy of this book in the evening. Has the Harry
Potter mania hit me too?
