It's The Principle.

I had bought many can openers, and last year was the last straw! So, I decided to buy a proper one, and I spent a staggering £8 on one from Tesco. It was from the, Go Cook brand made exclusively for Tesco. The reason why I chose that one, wasn’t because I thought, if it’s £8 it will be better, as that isn’t always the case, no I bought that one because on the package it stated, “5-year guarantee.”
That was good enough for me, I made sure I kept the package and the receipt, safe in a bag and made sure I would not lose it, for in the past I have put things, in a safe place and they have been lost for eternity and beyond!!! I lost a gold ring that way and the Kids Wii control when they were naughty! That last item back fired on me, for I had to then buy a cheap ‘copy’ from eBay! I also ‘lost’ forever the tagging gun for tagging my clothes after I’d tied and dyed them, I didn’t want the Kids to find it and hurt each other with the needle pointed end. I tend to put things away in a safe place, and forget where the safe place is. So, I filed this can opener and its precious receipt with my bills that I used on a regular basis.
Last week the can opener died a death! But I wasn’t bothered. I took it back to Tesco and went to Customer Service. I had already been to the Home section and picked up the identical one and it was still £8 and still had on it, “5-year guarantee.”
I said to the Sales Assistant, “I bought this last year and now it does not work, I would like to swop it for this new one, it is guaranteed for 5-years.” She said to me, “I will have to ring my Manager.” She rang her Manager, and said, “I have a Customer here, she has bought a can opener last year March, it has been used and she would like to swop it for a new one, it has a 5-year guarantee.” She then put the phone down and looked at my receipt, she couldn’t see it, so she looked at me and said, “I can’t see where it said it was guaranteed,” I pointed to the all-important packaging, she picked up the phone again and said, “It is on the packet, 5-year guarantee,” Then I heard her say, “OK, will do.” She put the phone down, and said to me, “That is not a problem, I will need to keep the old receipt but I will give you a new receipt.”
For once, I did something right, I was chuffed to bits. I have put the new packaging and its receipt in a safe place with the bills.

retro tin opener
Do you know that old vintage can opener with corkscrew its got a short hook blade you stick it (on top at the side) and rip all around it's infallible. Just a hell of sharp and jagged tin lid. Don't cut yourself. You get them on a swiss army knife too.
I found this interesting yes I know it is hard to find a good can opener and understand your frustration &
