I know two really nice people; one is called Erin the other is called Seth. They have a lot in common, they both work in unusual jobs, but not the same type of job. They both have their own home. Both very hardworking. Both lovely, lovely People. Both single and both ………… very, very shy.
I remember decades ago, when I was courting my now husband, we walked into a restaurant and there was Seth eating out on his own, nothing wrong with that, for many years before that I went to the cinema on my own, to watch, The Elephant Man.
Time went by and they were still single. One day about five years ago, an ideal came into my head, I decided to approach Seth, and talk to him about Erin, for that was how I met my Husband Paul, I worked with his best friend, who knew us both, and the idea popped into his head and within eight months of meeting, thanks to Keith, we were married.
I plucked up the courage, and I said, to Seth, “I know a really nice girl, (I told him how I knew her,) and I asked him, “Would you like me to ask her, if she would like to meet you on a blind date?” With his beautiful, shy smile he said, “No.” I didn’t expect that answer, I expected, “Yes.” I was disappointed. I thought of him and lovely Erin. I was sure they would make a fabulous couple, and have beautiful kids.
The next time I saw Erin, I thought of Seth and the lack of Seth in her life. I felt that I’d seen a solution, I watched her with her nieces and nephews, she was SO caring and patient, she like Seth had so many wonderful, gifts and qualities. Without me, they would never meet, ever. I had thought when the idea popped into my head, that I would ask Erin first, but I thought, no for if when I then went and asked Seth if he would like to meet her, and he said, “No,” Then she would have been hurt and I never want her to be hurt. To my knowledge neither has ever been out on a date.
With lockdown, I haven’t seen Erin. I know she is still single and Seth, I saw briefly yesterday to say, “Hello,” In passing, as I was in a hurry. He too is still single.
