"Today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic."
"Oh brother Dom, why don't you give it a rest?" asked Andrew
"He likes it."
"He's bloody asleep, he has been for about fifty miles!"
"They can still hear in their sleep, it's comforting."
"Look, where are we on the map?"
"About twenty miles from the cabin." Answered Dom.
The two thirty somethings had been driving for just under an hour on
the winding road that led out of the city and into the forest. They had
left the note in the family's home stating they would be in touch, the
plan was unfolding nicely.
"Do you think fifty thousand is too much, Andy?"
"No it's too little, but we both know that's all we need to buy the
boat."
"Just imagine it, our own fishing trawler, were going to make a mint,
I've always wanted to be fisherman."
"Yer, life on the open sea, that's the life for me." Answered
Andrew.
The three of them travelled in silence the rest of the way to the
cabin. By the time they got there it was already dusk, Andrew carefully
carried the toddler inside while Dom hid the car. In the trees all
around the swat team sat in wait.
When the two were inside they went about preparing some tea. Andrew put
the colt on the table and Dom took the toddler upstairs. "Is it normal
for a child to sleep all this time?"
"I don't know, I suppose it's been a big day for him, heh, you don't
get kidnapped every day of your life."
"Hah, true!" replied Dom.
"Team leader, this is Devlin, I have one of the suspects in my sight,
please instruct."
MI5 had been tipped off about Andrew Ginsberg's and Dominic Rinsky's
plan to kidnap the Harrison child seven weeks ago by Andrew's
girlfriend. She didn't want Andrew to move to the coast and start his
fishing business, and she didn't like Dom. Andrew had argued with her
that afternoon and threatened to leave her and that is when she went to
the police. The police had swapped the Harrison child for another, it
wasn't their intention to let the two seize the child but something had
gone wrong in the city, it had been the swap team leaders fault, now he
couldn't afford anything to go wrong.
"Take the shot, Devlin." The Swap team leader replied.
Dud, the rifle recoiled slightly and Andrew dropped to the floor, dead.
Dom stood with the teapot in his hand not really knowing what had just
happened. Then he saw the hole in the window. Dud, Dom's body collapsed
to the floor.
"Move, move, move." The swat team charged into the cabin, checked the
two bodies and then secured the boys safety who was still asleep
upstairs.
The Swap team leader checked the gun on the table, it was plastic and
not very realistic at that, he just smiled to himself.
