An Indian’s Lament
Betrayed by the white man,
Robbed of our homeland,
The Great Spirit will avenge us,
We were free as an eagle,
Now we are bound to the earth,
The plains once wild & strong,
Are scarred, cut deep with roads.
Tomahawks useless against thunder sticks,
Our compassion ineffective,
Against their cruelty.
You said we worship false idols,
You laughed at our spirit guides,
You renounced our spirituality,
You raped our women,
You disillusioned our young.
Our wisdom once potent,
Now consigned to history,
We tried to smoke the pipe of peace,
You threw it in our face,
Your progress,
Our demise.
Now we are but memory,
Fading like a sunset,
Fading Into night
Fading.

Are you an Indian? This
Are you an Indian?
This renders me quite speechless. I suppose it could be applied to most indigenous peoples. Even the Celts.

I did, or rather, I do. And
I did, or rather, I do.
And yes, I think a respect of the earth is lacking in modern societies. To generalise horribly.
