“Gina Roman’s office, Gina speaking,” answered the sweet voice on the other end of the receiver. It was early, and Gina was quite alert and energetic. The black coffee she drank every morning had started to course its way through her body, and she was ready for just about anything. However, the voice on the other end obviously startled her and caught her off guard.
“Hello, Gina. This is Harvey Wilson from The Kamunita. How are you doing this morning?” Gina sat silently for a moment. Many emotions were swirling around within her – anxiety, confusion, surprise, excitement.
“G. . . Good, thank you. How are you?” she finally asked back.
“Fine thanks. Let me get straight to the point. You’ve been selected to be the next member of The Kamunita. There will be a moving van out front of your door in the morning. All of your possessions will be moved into your personal storage space we have reserved for you here in our community. Your possessions will be safe, but you will not need them in The Kamunita. A limo will also arrive in the morning to drive you to your new residence. It is fully furnished ready for you to live in as of tomorrow. Members of the Kamunita Kabinet would like to meet with you to welcome you to the community and to get you started on your new position – Environmental Specialist. All of the details will be told to you then. Are there any questions I can answer for you until tomorrow?” the voice finally stopped. Gina was overwhelmed. A million questions were running through her mind, but she didn’t want to bother Harvey. She figured she’d get her answers tomorrow from the Kabinet members.
“Yes, there is one question,” she decided she had to ask. “So this is for real?”
“Yes, Gina. This is for real. Welcome to The Kamunita. Anything else?”
“No. I will be ready in the morning. Thank you for this opportunity.”
“You are welcome. See you tomorrow.”
The doorbell rang at eight the next morning. Gina was gulping down the last of her coffee when they arrived. Four men were at her door. Three of the men were in overalls and looked quite grimy for so early in the morning. The other man was dressed in a suit and a top hat. Gina quickly realized the overall-men were the movers. The suit was her driver. After the introductions were made, the movers got straight to work. Gina followed her driver down the stairs looking back as she heard a crash coming from inside her old home.
The trip was relatively short since she didn’t have to drive through the morning traffic that encompassed the city. The driver was actually very good in his driving abilities. Gina always hated riding as a passenger in cars with terrible drivers, so it was a comforting relief to be able to sit back and relax before her new life began.
