Are You Going To Get Dressed Today?

She is celiac and will be interviewed
for a cookery magazine. Last month
they did a writer, next an artist.
Stupid.
Everyone knows neither eats,
either due to forgetfulness
or rent, mostly both.
In the interview she won’t mention
how she banishes the toaster when I’m asleep.
Every morning the bread halts in front of the socket
like a cat flap left swinging, scanning the surface in shock.
Last week it was moved to the shelves in the hall,
tied up like a hostage with its own cable,
the week before it was under the sink,
this morning on top of the bicycle by the back door.
I took it to her.
It said: I miss being in the kitchen
I was just starting to get to know
the kettle and have a fondness
for the breadboard.
It’s too big, she said.
She meant, don’t remind me.
I can’t eat it,
so neither will you.
Then she said:
I’ve put chips on one of the questions.
It said what will you have for dinner tonight?
I said chips. It will blow their minds.
I have in other questions expressed enthusiasm.
It says what do you enjoy cooking?
In winter I make a good curried veg pie...
I grow fruit trees and make a good French tart...
I am often in an intensive space painting...
...it’s the hands that would stop me, be like eating a baby...
Wait - you’ll have to start that sentence again.
The idea of eating a monkey shocks me.
Cochineal because it crushed insects...
Rhubarb is evocative...
Sheeps brains...
I felt complete disgust.
I don’t think it’s quite what they had in mind.
...this is a bit more fragmented
...because I’m a morning person.
I was going to suggest someone exciting
But I couldn’t remember anybodies names
Hopeless.
I’m very lucky to be taken there,
but I can’t think of the bloody name of it
Lah-lah-caprice.
Kate Long has pushed for all the restaurants,
but Susan Verdie has said lots of things that don’t relate at all.
Think of some exciting people that I could have as my dream diner.
Are you going to get dressed today?
Perhaps you could type it up for me
since you're writing most of it down.
