We Boycott the Water Ban

Cows dip their tongues through the wire
curling them around unmown grass
already fully acknowledged
and tutted at by neighbours

Poppies drop red petals on gravel
Foxgloves gape their mouths open
Panting in the heat and we boycott
The water ban

While the bull heaves
Against the sagging fence
Which marks the boundary
Between our long grass and their short.
