And together
we should.
Could.
But didn’t
Won’t
Closing the door.
Turning the key.
We Exit Together.
But apart
Once touching
Holding
Longing.
Now
Distant And cold
We stand
Together but apart
And we smile
Shrug
And act like
We’ve forgotten
The touch
Taste and feel
Of each other.

"And we smile Shrug And act
"And we smile

We’ve forgotten
The touch
Taste and feel
Of each other."
I think the word 'shrug' sums up the atmosphere in this poem very well- a complacent acceptance- I liked it but I may have got it wrong ?
